Capcom Hints at Resident Evil 9 in Fun Video Marking 10M RE4 Players

Capcom has subtly teased Resident Evil 9 in a way that's hard to miss. In celebration of reaching an impressive 10 million players, the Resident Evil 4 development team released a celebratory video on social media on April 25. The video features Ada Wong in a hushed conversation with a notorious villain, followed by a scene where Leon is surrounded by infected enemies wearing party hats, casually making their way to a church.

The video then transitions to a rock song, with Dr. Salvador amusingly playing his chainsaw as if it were a guitar. The camera then pans to a fist-pumping Leon, with a rustic "Thank you for playing" sign visible in the background.

You can watch the full video below:

However, if you rotate the "Thank you for playing" sign, the boards form the Roman numeral "IX," which represents the number 9. While it might seem like a coincidence, horror game leaker Dusk Golem points out that the lower plank on the sign, which forms the "IX," was not present in earlier parts of the video, suggesting it was added intentionally. This has sparked speculation among fans.

"I know what you did here," said one surprised viewer, adding a wide-eyed emoji to their comment.

Capcom has also confirmed that the next mainline entry in the Resident Evil series, presumably Resident Evil 9, will be directed by Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil 7. Nakanishi said at the time, "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]. But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Rumors suggest, though not confirmed, that the game might be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
