The critically acclaimed series *Shōgun*, which swept the awards with 18 Emmys and 4 Golden Globes, is set to return for a highly anticipated second season. Cosmo Jarvis, who portrayed the pivotal character of pilot John Blackthorn, is confirmed to reprise his role and will also step into the role of co-executive producer, according to an official FX press release.
Lead actor Hiroyuki Sanada, who committed to Season 2 last May following the show's renewal from its original limited series format, has been promoted to executive producer. This comes after his successful contribution to the first season. Production for Season 2 is scheduled to commence in January 2026 in Vancouver, the same location where the first season was filmed.
FX has described the upcoming season as "a wholly original new chapter" that follows the adaptation of James Clavell’s novel. The network elaborated on the connection between the two seasons:
"In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) fought for his survival as his enemies in the Council of Regents united against him. When a mysterious European ship was found marooned in a nearby village, its English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis) shared vital strategic secrets with Toranaga that tipped the scales of power in his favor to win a century-defining civil war.
"Part two of Shōgun is set 10 years after the events of the first season and continues the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined."
Fans eagerly await the return of this exceptional series, with hopes set on seeing new episodes by the end of 2026. Until then, the anticipation builds as we look forward to another compelling chapter in the Shōgun saga.
