Dark Regards is the creative brainchild of comedian, writer, and musician Dave Hill, and artist Artyom Topilin, known for his work on Cruel Universe and I Hate This Place. This four-issue series draws inspiration from Hill's own unique experiences with his fictional Satanic metal band, Witch Taint, and the ensuing chaos that followed.

Here's how Oni Press describes the series:

Two decades ago, Dave Hill and his first band set out to rock their high school auditorium with a heavy metal spectacle. Their performance fell flat. Fast forward to today, and Dave has carved out a successful career in New York's comedy scene, where being laughed at is part of the job. Yet, his passion for metal is reignited when he discovers the intense world of Norwegian black metal. Embracing a hyperbolic alter ego, Dave forms Witch Taint—a band rumored to be so extreme that listeners must remove all sharp objects nearby. But when these internet-fueled rumors reach Europe, they attract the attention of Norway's most extreme black metal enthusiasts, leading to a dangerous escalation that threatens everything Dave holds dear.

In a statement, Hill shared the origins of the project: “A few years back, in a moment of late-night inspiration, I emailed a Norwegian black metal record label, criticizing their bands without having heard them and proposing my own extreme band, Witch Taint, which didn't exist yet. What started as a playful email turned into months of correspondence that unexpectedly went viral. Now, it's transformed into my first comic book series, Dark Regards, illustrated by the incredible Artyom Topilin. Missing out on this series would be a mistake!”

Dark Regards #1 is priced at $4.99 and will hit the shelves on May 13, 2025.
