Capcom has unveiled a remastered edition of the original Dead Rising, marking a significant return for the franchise after a long hiatus. The last mainline Dead Rising game, released in 2016, received mixed reception, seemingly contributing to the series' dormancy. While the original Dead Rising (2006) was initially an Xbox 360 exclusive, an enhanced version later appeared on other platforms. This new release, however, promises even greater visual and performance improvements.
The announcement, a brief 40-second YouTube trailer showcasing the game's iconic opening sequence, generated considerable excitement. While specific platforms and a release date remain unconfirmed, a late 2024 launch is anticipated. The timing is noteworthy, considering the success of Capcom's Resident Evil remakes, which have overshadowed Dead Rising in recent years.
Titled Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, this current-gen version offers fans a chance to revisit the classic zombie-slaying action. The focus on a remaster, rather than a full-scale remake, suggests that Capcom might prioritize other projects, potentially leaving sequels for future consideration. While the possibility of a Dead Rising 5 remains, a complete franchise remake overhaul seems unlikely given the proven success of the Resident Evil remakes.
This year has already seen a surge in popular remasters and remakes, including Persona 3 Reload, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster. Should Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster launch in 2024, it would join other Xbox 360-era remasters like Epic Mickey: Rebrushed and Lollipop Chainsaw: RePOP, further solidifying the trend.
