Corinne Busche, the director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is reportedly set to leave EA-owned BioWare in the coming weeks. Eurogamer broke the news, noting that Busche served as the game director from February 2022 until the game's launch last October. IGN has reached out to EA for further comment on this development.

Since its release, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has faced scrutiny over its commercial performance. However, Eurogamer has stated that Busche's departure is unrelated to the game's success. EA has not yet disclosed whether the game met its sales and revenue targets, though the company is set to reveal its Q3 2025 financial results on February 4.

Busche joined BioWare in 2019 following her tenure at Maxis, where she contributed to various The Sims projects. Her role at BioWare was instrumental in steering Dragon Age: The Veilguard to completion after a tumultuous development process that spanned nearly a decade. IGN previously detailed this journey in an article titled 'How BioWare Finally Got Dragon Age to the Finish Line After a Tumultuous Decade,' highlighting the game's transformation from a multiplayer concept to a full-fledged single-player RPG.

BioWare has confirmed that it will not be developing any DLC for Dragon Age: The Veilguard and is instead shifting its focus to Mass Effect 5. While the studio has teased the next Mass Effect game at various points, a full reveal is yet to be made.

The studio faced significant changes last year, including the layoff of around 50 employees in August 2023, the same month that Baldur's Gate 3 by Larian Studios was released. Among those let go were long-time BioWare veterans such as narrative designer Mary Kirby, who had been with the company since the inception of Dragon Age.

These layoffs were part of a broader restructuring at EA, which effectively split the company into sports and non-sports divisions. Rumors circulated at BioWare about a potential acquisition, and Star Wars: The Old Republic was allowed to transition to a third-party service to allow BioWare to concentrate on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

BioWare's journey with Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been eventful. The initial reveal in 2024 was met with negative feedback, prompting the studio to quickly release an early gameplay tease. The decision to rename the game from Dreadwolf to The Veilguard also faced criticism. Despite these challenges, subsequent impressions of the game have been generally positive.

With Busche's departure and the studio's shift in focus, Dragon Age fans are left pondering whether BioWare will have the opportunity to create another sequel to The Veilguard.
