The upcoming Elden Ring Nightreign network test will impose a three-hour daily playtime restriction on participants. This limited access test, running from February 14th to 17th, is exclusively available to Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 players. Applications are currently open via the official FromSoftware website.
Following the phenomenal success of Elden Ring in 2022, the announcement of Nightreign, a spin-off title, generated considerable excitement. While initially, FromSoftware indicated no plans for a sequel or further DLC beyond the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, Nightreign's surprise unveiling at The Game Awards 2024 caught many off guard.
This network test, described on the FromSoftware website as a "preliminary verification test," aims to assess online systems through large-scale network load testing. The limited playtime, therefore, is a crucial element of this technical evaluation. PC players are unfortunately excluded from this initial test phase, though the final game will support the platform.
Nightreign represents a departure for FromSoftware, prioritizing co-operative gameplay and incorporating roguelike elements such as procedurally generated encounters. While a release date remains unannounced, the network test strongly suggests a forthcoming official launch announcement.
