Epic Store Freebie: January 16

Escape Academy is the Epic Games Store's free game offering for January 16th, 2025. This escape-room style puzzle game is the fourth free title offered by EGS in 2025, and boasts the highest OpenCritic rating of any EGS freebie so far this year.

Epic Games Store users have a week, until January 23rd, to claim their free copy.

Developed by Coin Crew Games, Escape Academy challenges players to train as "escape room masters" within the game's academy setting. Initially released in July 2022 for PC and consoles, this title is returning to the EGS free game rotation. The giveaway begins on January 16th, replacing Turmoil.

A Previous EGS Freebie

While Escape Academy was previously offered as a free mystery game on the EGS on January 1st, 2024, this marks its first week-long free availability on the platform. This timing is particularly beneficial for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, as Escape Academy is slated to leave the service on January 15th after an 18-month run.

Epic Games Store's January 2025 Free Games

  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance (January 1st)
  • Hell Let Loose (January 2nd – 9th)
  • Turmoil (January 9th – 16th)
  • Escape Academy (January 16th – 23rd)

Escape Academy's "Strong" OpenCritic rating (80 average score, 88% recommendation) and positive player reviews across Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox stores highlight its quality. The game offers both solo and well-regarded online/split-screen multiplayer experiences, making it a top co-op puzzle game choice.

This marks the fourth free game from the Epic Games Store in 2025, following Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Hell Let Loose, and Turmoil. The announcement of the fifth free game is expected on January 16th. Players who enjoy the core game can purchase two DLC packs: "Escape From Anti-Escape Island" and "Escape From the Past," available individually for $9.99 or bundled in a Season Pass for $14.99.
