Game Informer Revives Under Neill Blomkamp's Studio Leadership

Just over six months after its closure by GameStop in August 2024, Game Informer has triumphantly returned, with the entire team back on board. In a heartfelt 'Letter From the Editor,' Game Informer Editor-In-Chief Matt Miller announced that Gunzilla Games, the developer behind the free-to-play extraction battle royale game Off the Grid and the blockchain ecosystem GunZ, has acquired the rights to Game Informer from GameStop. Not only is the editorial team returning, but Miller emphasized that "production and beyond" will also be reinstated.

It's worth noting that Gunzilla Games is currently in Early Access with Off the Grid and is pioneering community-driven economies in AAA games through their GunZ platform. Additionally, the team boasts the creative prowess of Neill Blomkamp, the acclaimed director of District 9 and Chappie, who serves as Gunzilla's chief creative officer and co-founder.

Miller also underscored the new owners' commitment to Game Informer's independence. Gunzilla Games insisted that Game Informer remain an independent editorial outlet, allowing the team to make 100% of the decisions regarding content coverage without any external influence. This commitment has led to the creation of Game Informer Inc., under which the website, with its over 30-year history, has been revived.

To ensure no gap in their coverage, the team has prepared "dozens" of new reviews for games released during their hiatus, along with their Best of 2024 awards. Fans of the print magazine will be pleased to know it's set to return, with Miller promising it will be "bigger and better than it was before." In the coming weeks, Game Informer plans to introduce membership and subscription benefits, expand their video, streaming, and feature coverage, and broaden their range of experts and partnerships.
