Sony and Santa Monica Studio have unveiled the Dark Odyssey collection, a new God of War Ragnarök update launching next week, bringing a striking set of in-game cosmetics inspired by one of the franchise’s most legendary looks.
As part of the God of War 20th anniversary celebration, Sony shared full details in a PlayStation.Blog post, with the Dark Odyssey update taking center stage. This free content drop arrives on March 20 for all God of War Ragnarök owners on PlayStation 5 and PC, delivering a premium war chest of visual upgrades.
The collection showcases a sleek black-and-gold aesthetic, giving Kratos, Atreus, and Freya a bold new look as they continue their journey through the realms of Norse mythology. The update includes full cosmetic sets for companions Atreus and Freya, as well as stylish appearances for weapons and shields.
The crown jewel of the pack is the Dark Odyssey appearance and armor set for Kratos, a modern recreation of the exclusive skin originally awarded to players who completed God of War II on God Mode. This iconic look will be available to all players post-update—simply open any Lost Items chest in the base game or claim it immediately in Ragnarök’s Valhalla roguelike mode.
Additionally, the update introduces weapon appearance customization, allowing players to change the look of Kratos’ arsenal without losing any of their unique abilities—a highly requested feature from the community.

God of War Ragnarök launched in late 2022, and while it stands as a monumental chapter in the series, Santa Monica Studio recognizes that one update isn’t enough to honor two decades of Kratos’ legacy. The Dark Odyssey release is just one part of a broader celebration, which includes downloadable social media assets available here, a special art showcase in collaboration with Gallery Nucleus in Los Angeles, exclusive merchandise, limited-time sales, and multiple vinyl soundtrack releases spanning the franchise’s history.
“On behalf of everyone at Santa Monica Studio, we are immeasurably grateful to have had the chance to build the legacy of this series with and for you, the fans of God of War,” the studio shared.
