Jason Momoa, known for his role as Aquaman in the previous DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is set to bring the iconic character Lobo to life in the 2026 DC Universe (DCU) movie, "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow." Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter with superhuman strength and immortality, hails from the now-defunct planet Czarnia, making him the last survivor of his world, much like Superman. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in "Omega Men #3" back in 1983.
Momoa has expressed his excitement about portraying Lobo, a character he has long admired and feels a personal connection to due to their aesthetic similarities. In an interview with ScreenRant, Momoa gave fans a glimpse into what they can expect from Lobo's appearance in the film, hinting at a brief but impactful role. "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play," he said. "That’s the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike’s really cool."
When asked about Lobo's screen time, Momoa clarified, "It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit."
In January, DC co-chief James Gunn shared the first photo of Milly Alcock as Supergirl, although it didn’t reveal much. Gunn announced on Bluesky that filming had begun for "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow," with Alcock, known for her role in "House of the Dragon," taking on the role of Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl.
The movie is heavily inspired by the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. The story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. Matthias Schoenaerts plays Krem, while Eve Ridley portrays Ruthye. The cast also includes David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El and Emily Beecham as her mother.
"Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" is slated for release in June 2026, following the premiere of James Gunn's "Superman" this summer. The DCU's "Clayface" movie is scheduled for September 2026.
