While many fans believed Patch 7 would be the last major update for Baldur's Gate 3, Larian Studios has confirmed another substantial update set for release in 2025. Alongside crossplay support and a photo mode, this update introduces 12 new subclasses, each bringing unique mechanics to the game. Details about four of these subclasses have already been shared, and now we're diving into the remaining ones: Oath of the Crown Paladin, Arcane Archer, Drunken Master Monk, and Swarmkeeper Ranger.
The Oath of the Crown Paladin is dedicated to upholding justice and order, prioritizing the welfare of society. This subclass features the Divine Devotion ability, which absorbs incoming damage to allies and simultaneously restores their health, making it an invaluable asset in team battles.
The Arcane Archer merges martial prowess with arcane magic, offering a unique combat style. Their enchanted arrows can inflict conditions such as blindness, weakness, or even exile enemies to the Feywild until the next turn. Moreover, if an arrow misses its initial target, the Arcane Archer can redirect its flight path to hit another enemy, ensuring their shots are never wasted.
The Drunken Master Monk brings a unique twist by incorporating alcohol into their fighting techniques. Their signature move intoxicates foes, causing disorientation while enhancing the monk's own abilities. The ability to use Instant Sobriety on an intoxicated target inflicts both physical and mental damage, adding a strategic layer to their combat style.
The Swarmkeeper Ranger harnesses the power of nature through alliances with swarms of creatures. These swarms not only shield the ranger from harm but also assist with teleportation. In combat, the ranger can deploy three distinct types of swarms: electric jellyfish clusters, blinding moth clouds, and stinging bee legions. The latter can knock back enemies who fail a strength check by 4.5 meters, providing a versatile and impactful combat strategy.
