Despite the risks of account bans, players of *Marvel Rivals* are continuing to use mods, even after a crackdown following the launch of Season 1. Since the game's highly successful debut in December, the community has been customizing skins, transforming characters like Iron Man into Vegeta from *Dragon Ball* and Mantis into a goth. There's also a popular mod that turns Jeff the Land Shark into Pochita from *Chainsaw Man*.
Last week, with the introduction of the Fantastic Four and the start of Season 1, *Marvel Rivals* implemented a secret mod restriction through asset hash checking. Developer NetEase reiterated to IGN that the game's terms and conditions prohibit the use of mods, cheats, bots, hacks, or any unauthorized third-party software. They had previously warned players about the risks of modding and reinforced this message, stating, "It is not recommended to modify any game files, as doing so carries the risk of getting banned."
### Marvel Rivals Tier List: Best HeroesDespite these warnings, some players remain undeterred. A new workaround has surfaced and is being widely shared online. Although it requires more steps than before, it's still manageable for most PC users. Modder Prafit, who shared their workaround on Nexus Mods, cautioned players with a "use at your own risk" message, explaining that the workaround bypasses a system designed to prevent modding with the Season 1 update. Prafit noted, "No-one knows if NetEase will ban you, but they have never issued permabans as far as we know."
New mods have emerged, taking advantage of the addition of Fantastic Four characters. For instance, Ercuallo's mod transforms Mister Fantastic into Luffy from the *One Piece* manga, which has already been downloaded over 5,000 times in just two days since its release, according to Nexus Mods statistics.

The ongoing use of mods raises the question of whether NetEase will follow through with their threats to ban players. So far, no instances of bans due to modding have been reported, but the emergence of workarounds might prompt further action from the developers.
NetEase may be motivated to ban mods not only because of potential lost revenue from skin sales and intellectual property concerns but also because mods can disrupt gameplay balance and affect game performance. Modder Prafit advised that their temporary workaround is best suited for those with a "beefy" PC.
