Simu Liu, the Marvel star, is spearheading efforts to revive the cancelled Sleeping Dogs film adaptation. Newsweek reports Liu responded to a fan on X/Twitter, stating he's actively working with rights holders to bring the game to the big screen.
The project, initially announced in 2017 with Donnie Yen attached to star, was seemingly abandoned a year later. Recently, Yen confirmed its cancellation, citing years of invested time, effort, and personal funds, only to see the project fall apart due to the unpredictable nature of Hollywood.
Liu's intervention reignites hope for the Hong Kong-set action franchise. However, the success of his endeavor in securing the rights or moving the project forward remains uncertain.
The original Sleeping Dogs video game, released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, follows Detective Wei Shen as he undertakes an undercover operation within a formidable Hong Kong Triad. Critically acclaimed, achieving an 8/10 rating from IGN, the game, despite its success, never received a sequel.
