During Gamescom, Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon provided insights into how Mortal Kombat 1 will differentiate the gameplay of Omni-Man and Homelander. In an interview with IGN, Boon addressed fan concerns about the potential overlap in combat styles between these two characters, assuring that NetherRealm Studios has plans to make them distinctly unique.
Boon emphasized that the developers have been given the creative freedom to explore various ideas for the characters. However, they are committed to avoiding similarities, particularly avoiding scenarios where both characters possess identical Superman-like abilities. Boon stated, "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that."
To ensure a distinct experience, Boon revealed that the team has drawn inspiration from the actions of Homelander and Omni-Man in their respective shows, translating these into unique Fatalities for each character. He elaborated, "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, ‘Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters.’"
