Console Performance Targets Revealed

Monster Hunter Wilds has confirmed that a patch will be available for the PS5 Pro at launch next year. In a pre-launch community update stream on December 19th at 9AM EST / 6AM PST, director Yuya Tokuda and other staff members discussed the improvements and adjustments planned for the full game launch following the Open Beta Test (OBT).

The team revealed the target performance values for the game on consoles. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will feature two modes: Prioritize Graphics and Prioritize Framerate. Opting for graphics will run the game at 4K resolution with 30fps, while choosing framerate will offer 1080p resolution at 60fps. The Xbox Series S, on the other hand, will run at a native 1080p resolution with 30fps. A rendering bug in the Framerate mode has been fixed, leading to improved performance.

For PC players, performance will vary based on hardware and settings. The team is also contemplating another open beta test, intended as a second chance for players who missed the first one. This potential 2nd open beta will include new options to try, but it won't feature the changes discussed in the stream, which will be exclusive to the full release.

Other topics covered in the livestream included adjustments to hitstop and sound effects to enhance the feeling of impact, as well as the reduction of friendly fire. There were also tweaks and improvements to all weapons, with special attention to the Insect Glaive, Switch Axe, and Lance.

Monster Hunter Wilds is set to launch on February 28th, 2025, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
