NetEase's Upcoming Open-World RPG, Ananta (formerly Project Mugen), Unveils New Trailer
Remember Project Mugen, the highly anticipated urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase? The game has undergone a name change, and is now officially called Ananta.
First revealed at Gamescom 2023, Ananta has finally released a new trailer after a lengthy period without updates. More information is promised on December 5th, but for now, enjoy the official trailer:
The Reason Behind the Name Change?
While the developers haven't yet commented on the name change, "Ananta" translates to "infinite" in Sanskrit, mirroring the meaning of "Mugen" (also meaning infinite). The Chinese title further supports this thematic consistency.
The gaming community's reaction to the name change is mixed, but there's widespread relief that the project hasn't been cancelled. Comparisons are already being drawn between Ananta and Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. Ananta's stylish trailer, however, lacks any gameplay footage, giving Neverness to Everness a potential advantage in the eyes of some players. Personally, Ananta's visuals are more striking.
A Curious Turn of Events
Interestingly, the development team has deleted all their original social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only their Discord server remains, albeit renamed. This complete social media overhaul has left many gamers puzzled.
In Ananta, players assume the role of an Infinite Trigger, a paranormal investigator confronting supernatural chaos. The game features characters like Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
