Genki, a prominent handheld gaming accessory developer, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key features. Based on a black market acquisition, the model accurately reflects the console's dimensions, showcasing a larger size comparable to the Valve Steam Deck.
Key features observed include magnetic Joy-Cons, a second USB-C port, and an enigmatic "C" button. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic Joy-Con design in an interview with The Verge, explaining that a button on each Joy-Con releases a pin, disengaging the magnetic connection. Despite the magnetic attachment, the Joy-Cons remain secure during gameplay.
Further details emerged regarding the Joy-Con's "mounting channel," which incorporates an optical sensor. This suggests potential functionality as a mouse, a theory supported by recently leaked Switch 2 images showing similar sensors.
While the Switch 2's increased size allows it to physically fit within the existing Switch dock, structural differences render it incompatible. The purpose of the additional USB-C port and the "C" button remains unknown.
