Oscar Isaac to Appear at Star Wars Celebration, Fueling Return Rumors

Excitement is building in the Star Wars community as Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac is set to make an official appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025. This event, scheduled to take place in Tokyo from April 18 to 20, has sparked rumors and hopes among fans that Isaac might announce the return of his character, Poe Dameron, to the iconic galaxy far, far away.

The announcement of Isaac's appearance was made through the official Star Wars Celebration Instagram account, igniting speculation similar to when Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey, appeared at Star Wars Celebration 2023 and confirmed her involvement in a new film. Fans are now eagerly anticipating whether Isaac will follow suit with news of Poe's return.

The Sequel Trilogy concluded in 2019 with "Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker," and since then, Isaac's stance on returning to the franchise has evolved. Initially, in 2020, he humorously mentioned he'd only come back if he needed "another house or something." However, by 2022, he expressed a more neutral stance to Variety, indicating he was "open to anything."

Isaac has also been vocal about his disappointment with Disney for rejecting his idea of a romantic storyline between Poe and John Boyega's character, Finn, stating that the "overlords were not ready for that." Boyega, who also had a rocky relationship with the franchise, has similarly expressed openness to future roles within the Star Wars universe.

With the upcoming Rey film set to take place 15 years after the events of "The Rise of Skywalker," and focusing on rebuilding the Jedi Order, speculation is rife about the potential return of all three main characters from the Sequel Trilogy. Daisy Ridley has already voiced her desire for Boyega to join her, and with Poe completing the trio, his return seems plausible.

While fans eagerly await definitive news at Star Wars Celebration 2025, they might have to wait longer to see what unfolds. Disney has repeatedly delayed the release of upcoming Star Wars films, despite having announced over a dozen projects. The Rey film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, is currently slated for a potential release on December 17, 2027, though no final date has been confirmed yet.
