Path of Exile 2 Endgame Mapping: A Waystone Sustainability Guide

One of the biggest hurdles in transitioning from Path of Exile 2's campaign to the endgame is maintaining a steady supply of Waystones. Running dry on Waystones quickly halts progression, especially at higher map tiers. Fortunately, several strategies can ensure a consistent flow of Waystones. Let's explore the most effective methods.

Prioritize Boss Maps

The most reliable way to acquire Waystones is by focusing on Boss map nodes. Bosses have a significantly higher chance of dropping Waystones. If you're low on high-tier maps, use lower-tier maps to reach Boss nodes and then utilize your higher-tier Waystones for the boss encounters. Successfully defeating a boss often yields a Waystone of the same or higher tier, sometimes even multiple Waystones.

Invest Currency Wisely

While hoarding Regal Orbs and Exalted Orbs for trading or crafting is tempting, it's counterproductive in the long run. Consider Waystones an investment: the more currency you invest in upgrading them, the greater the return (provided you survive). This creates a positive feedback loop, but only if you consistently reinvest. Here's a currency allocation strategy:

  • Tier 1-5 Waystones: Upgrade to Magic items (Orb of Augmentation, Orb of Transmutation).
  • Tier 6-10 Waystones: Upgrade to Rare items (Regal Orb).
  • Tier 11-16 Waystones: Maximize upgrades (Regal Orb, Exalted Orb, Vaal Orb, Delirium Instills).

Prioritize Waystone drop chance (ideally above 200%) and increased item rarity. Also, focus on increasing monster density, especially rare monsters. List items for Regal Orbs instead of Exalted Orbs if they aren't selling quickly; they'll sell faster, generating usable currency.

Utilize Atlas Skill Tree Nodes

As you progress and complete Doryani's quest, strategically allocate Atlas skill tree points. Three nodes are particularly beneficial for Waystone acquisition:

  • Constant Crossroads: 20% increased quantity of Waystones.
  • Fortunate Path: 100% increased rarity of Waystones.
  • The High Road: 20% chance for Waystones to be a higher tier.

These nodes are usually accessible by Tier 4 maps. Respeccing is worthwhile if you've chosen a less effective path; Waystones are far more valuable than the gold required for respeccing.

Optimize Your Build

Insufficient build optimization is a major reason for Waystone shortages. Dying frequently negates any gains from increased drop rates or monster density. If struggling, consult a build guide for your class and respec accordingly. Endgame mapping demands a different build strategy than the campaign.

Leverage Precursor Tablets

Precursor Tablets enhance monster rarity and quantity, adding significant modifiers to towers. Stack these effects by using Tablets on nearby towers for amplified results, even in T5+ maps. Don't hoard them; use them strategically.

Buy Waystones (When Necessary)

Despite your best efforts, you might occasionally run low on Waystones. Don't hesitate to purchase them from the trade site to regain momentum. Waystones generally cost around 1 Exalted Orb, with lower-tier Waystones often available for less. Use the in-game trade channel (/trade 1) for bulk purchases.
