PC Games That Play Better With A Controller

PC gaming is largely synonymous with keyboard and mouse control, particularly for genres like first-person shooters and strategy games that benefit from precise aiming and control. However, some PC games are actually enhanced by using a controller. Reflex-based action and fast-paced melee combat often lend themselves better to gamepad input. This is especially true for titles originating on consoles before making their way to PC.

While many PC releases strive for robust keyboard and mouse support, several stand out as superior experiences with controllers. Recent releases like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Infinity Nikki, Marvel Rivals, Path of Exile 2, and Delta Force are generally better suited to keyboard and mouse, though Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered offers a slightly improved experience with a gamepad, though the difference is minimal.

Several upcoming PC game releases show promise for enhanced controller play:

  • Freedom Wars Remastered: A PS Vita port echoing the Monster Hunter formula, suggesting natural controller compatibility.
  • Tales of Graces f Remastered: The Tales series consistently performs better with gamepads, and this remaster is expected to follow suit.
  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Given the similar combat system to its predecessor, a controller is likely preferable on PC.
  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2: As a PS5 port, a controller-first experience is anticipated, although keyboard and mouse may still be viable.

A notable 2024 Soulslike title has also been included. See below for details.
