The release of Peacemaker Season 2 follows closely on the heels of the much-anticipated Superman movie, which hits theaters on July 11. This film marks the official start of Gunn's reimagined DC Universe (DCU). Peacemaker Season 2 will be the third installment in this new universe, following the Creature Commandos TV series that debuted last year and the upcoming Superman film.

Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are steering the DCU away from the less successful DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, certain elements from the DCEU are being retained, with Peacemaker serving as a prime example. Originally launched within the DCEU, the series transitions into the new DCU with its second season.

Gunn has assured fans that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," although the specifics of what will carry over from the DCEU to the DCU are still under wraps. He confirmed that the entire Team Peacemaker will return, with the same actors reprising their roles. This includes John Cena as Peacemaker, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Moreover, Gunn revealed that the events of Peacemaker Season 2 will occur after those of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's storyline having a direct impact on Peacemaker's narrative.
