PlayStation Productions Unveils Ambitious Slate of Game Adaptations at CES 2025

PlayStation Productions made a significant splash at CES 2025, announcing a wave of new game adaptations slated for release in 2025 and beyond. The announcements, made on January 7th, 2025, included a diverse range of projects spanning various formats.

New Adaptations Announced:

• Ghost of Tsushima: Legends Anime Series: A new anime series based on Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, a co-op mode from the popular game, is in the works, with Crunchyroll and Aniplex collaborating on production. Directed by Takanobu Mizumo and with story composition by Gen Urobuchi, the series is set to premiere exclusively on Crunchyroll in 2027. Sony Music will contribute to the music and soundtrack.

• Horizon Zero Dawn and Helldivers 2 Films: Film adaptations of Horizon Zero Dawn (produced by Sony Pictures) and Helldivers 2 (handled by Columbia Pictures) are officially in development. Details on these projects remain scarce.

• Until Dawn Film Adaptation: A film adaptation of Until Dawn is scheduled for release on April 25, 2025.

• The Last of Us Season Two: Neil Druckmann, while briefly discussing Naughty Dog's upcoming game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, also unveiled a new trailer for The Last of Us season two. This season will adapt the storyline from The Last of Us Part II, introducing characters like Abby and Dina.

Past Successes and Future Projects:

PlayStation Productions, established in 2019, has already achieved success with adaptations like Uncharted (2022) and Gran Turismo (2023), both performing strongly at the box office. The Twisted Metal series, though not as critically acclaimed as The Last of Us, completed production of its second season in late 2024. The release date for season two is yet to be announced.

The studio is also actively developing film adaptations of Days Gone and a sequel to the Uncharted film, along with a God of War TV series, though details on these projects remain limited.

The continued expansion of PlayStation Productions suggests a strong commitment to bringing more beloved PlayStation franchises to life in new mediums, driven by both fan demand and the proven success of previous adaptations.
