After an incredible 26-year journey in the Pokémon anime, Ash Ketchum, who famously remained perpetually 10 years old, has finally bid farewell. Now, The Pokémon Company is taking a bold step forward with the new protagonists of Pokémon Horizons, Liko and Roy, by allowing them to grow up. This development marks a significant shift from the long-standing tradition of keeping the main characters at a fixed age.
The latest news, revealed in the CoroCoro magazine, introduces the upcoming arc of Pokémon Horizons, titled Mega Voltage, which will feature a time skip. This arc will see Liko and Roy age by approximately three years, showcasing new designs where they appear taller and more mature.

These characters share the same universe as Ash, meaning that, although unseen, Ash and his friends like Misty, Brock, May, Dawn, and Serena have also aged. This raises intriguing possibilities about whether we might see an older Ash in this or future arcs, sparking much speculation among fans.
The Mega Voltage arc will also reintroduce Mega Evolutions, aligning with their return in the upcoming game, Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Notably, Liko's Floragato has evolved into Meowscarada, and Roy now boasts a shiny Mega Lucario.
One concerning detail from the reveal is the absence of Friede, the captain of the Rising Volt Tacklers. His partner Pikachu is shown wearing Friede's goggles, which appear to be cracked, hinting at a potential misfortune for Friede.
The Mega Voltage arc is set to premiere in Japan on April 11, though viewers in the United States will have to wait longer due to the delay in the English dub. While Pokémon Horizons Season 2 received a lukewarm 5/10 rating for not fully leveraging its potential, the upcoming time skip and new developments promise to inject fresh energy into the series.
