Surviving a zombie apocalypse in Project Zomboid requires more than just finding shelter; securing it is crucial. Building barricades is key, and boarded windows are a simple yet effective first line of defense. This guide shows you how.
How to Barricade Windows in Project Zomboid
To barricade a window, gather your materials: one wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once you have these, right-click the window you wish to secure. Your character will automatically begin boarding it up. Each window can hold up to four planks for increased protection.
Locating Supplies
Hammers and nails are typically found in toolboxes, garages, sheds, closets, and similar locations. Wooden planks are common at construction sites, or you can salvage them by breaking down wooden furniture like shelves or chairs. Administrators can use the "/additem" command to spawn items.
Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie entry. More planks mean greater resistance. To remove planks, right-click the boards and select "Remove." You'll need a claw hammer or crowbar to do so.
Limitations
Note that large furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators, etc.) cannot be used as effective window barricades; players and zombies will phase through them.
Advanced Barricades
For stronger defenses, consider metal bars or sheets, but you'll need sufficient Metalworking skill.
