The Sims creator, Will Wright, recently took to Twitch to share exciting new details about Proxi, his upcoming AI-powered life simulation game from Gallium Studio. This innovative title, first hinted at in 2018, focuses on the power of memories and promises a deeply personal gaming experience.
Initially shrouded in secrecy, Proxi emerged from the shadows with a "not-a-trailer-trailer" last month. Now, thanks to a Twitch livestream with BreakthroughT1D—a leading organization dedicated to Type 1 diabetes research—Will Wright offered a more in-depth look at the game. The livestream, part of BreakthroughT1D's Dev Diaries series, featured Wright discussing his game development journey and the unique concept behind Proxi.
Wright explained that Proxi is an AI life sim built directly from your memories. Players input their real-life experiences as paragraphs of text, which the game then transforms into animated scenes. These scenes are fully customizable, allowing players to fine-tune the visuals using in-game assets to accurately reflect their memories. Each memory, termed a "mem," trains the game's AI and populates the player's "mind world"—a navigable 3D environment of hexagons.
As the mind world expands, so does its population. Proxies—AI representations of friends and family—emerge, enriching the experience. Memories can be arranged chronologically and linked to specific Proxies, creating a dynamic and personalized timeline. Remarkably, these Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds, including Minecraft and Roblox!
The game aims to create "magical connections with memories, bringing them to life." Wright emphasized his desire for a more personal experience, explaining, "I found myself getting continuously closer and closer to the player. A saying I've lived by is that no game designer has ever gone wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players." He chuckled, adding, "It goes to figure that the more I can make a game about you, the more you'll like it."
Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's official website, with platform announcements forthcoming.
