If you had any doubt that *Rune Slayer* isn’t an MMORPG, here’s your proof: it has fishing. And as we all know, if a game has fishing, it’s officially an MMORPG. Kidding aside, you’re here to learn how fishing works in *Rune Slayer*, and we’re here to help. Yeah, we had trouble with this, too, but we eventually figured it out and are happy to tell you how to catch fish in *Rune Slayer*. Spoiler Alert: It definitely isn’t as intuitive as in *Fisch*.
Before you start fishing, make sure to **accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman**, the white-haired NPC located at one of the piers where the Baracuda is swimming. Simon requires you to catch 5 "fish," and in return, he will reward you with a Tackle Box (we'll explain the quotation marks later).
Here’s the twist: **to catch fish, you'll need a fishing rod and some bait/tackle**, and conveniently, Simon the Fisherman is your go-to vendor for these items.
**Purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and at least 5 Worms from Simon**. We recommend buying 10 Worms just to be safe. **You cannot equip the bait**, but the Worms **must be in your inventory** to be used automatically when you catch a fish. **One Worm is removed from your inventory with each catch**.
Here’s an important note: **you won’t be able to catch any fish unless you have at least 5 Worms**. We tried with just one Worm and caught nothing. Once we had 5 Worms in our inventory, we started reeling in fish. We suggest keeping the Worms in your hotbar to easily monitor your supply. With these essentials, you’re ready to move on to the next step.
First, **select your Wood Fishing Rod**. You can’t equip it, so simply move it to your hotbar or access it from your inventory, and your character will hold it in both hands.
**Hold M1 to cast your line into a body of water** (the pier next to Simon the Fisherman works well).
Next, **keep an eye on the bobber**. When you see it **ripple once or twice**, **click M1 again to reel in your catch**. That’s it.
**This method isn’t foolproof**. Often, you won’t catch anything, and sometimes you’ll reel in junk. However, **Simon considers junk as a valid catch** (hence the quotation marks around "fish").
So, cast your line, wait for the ripples, hit M1, and aim to catch anything five times. We caught two actual fish and three Old Cups.
**Once you’ve caught 5 "fish", return to Simon the Fisherman** to complete the quest. He will give you a tackle box. Open it and store your remaining Worms inside to free up inventory space.
