Sadie Sink, known for her role as Max Mayfield in Stranger Things, is set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Spider-Man 4 alongside Tom Holland. According to Deadline, Sink, who debuted in the film Chuck in 2016, will star in the upcoming MCU movie, which is slated to start filming later this year and is scheduled for release on July 31, 2026. Both Marvel and Sony have remained silent on the matter when approached by Deadline.
Speculation is rife that Sink might take on the role of the iconic X-Men character Jean Grey or another beloved redheaded character from the Spider-Man universe, such as Mary Jane Watson. However, integrating Mary Jane into the storyline poses questions about Peter Parker's existing relationship with Michelle "MJ" Jones-Watson, portrayed by Zendaya in the previous films. Given the significant role Sink is expected to play and the narrative reset in Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Peter reintroduces himself to MJ after his identity is erased from everyone's memory, the plot could be heading in an exciting new direction.
Tom Holland is currently engaged in filming Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, and plans are in place for him to transition directly into shooting Spider-Man 4 upon completion, as reported by Deadline.
Last year, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige hinted at the integration of X-Men characters into the MCU's upcoming films. Speaking at the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore, Feige teased that fans would soon see "some X-Men players that you might recognize" without specifying which characters or movies. He further emphasized the importance of the X-Men in the MCU's future, particularly post-Secret Wars, noting that the saga would lead into a new era dominated by mutants and the X-Men.

Assuming "few" refers to three movies, the next candidates for mutant appearances could be Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps slated for July 2025. More likely, however, are mutant roles in Phase 6 movies, including Avengers: Doomsday and Spider-Man 4 in 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. The return of characters like Deadpool and Wolverine, following their successful standalone film, and possibly Channing Tatum as Gambit, remain open questions.
Feige has confirmed that the X-Men will play a crucial role in the MCU's future beyond Secret Wars. He stated, "When we were preparing for Avengers: Endgame years ago, it was a question of getting to the grand finale of our narrative, and then we had to start all over again after that. This time, on the road to Secret Wars, we already know very well what the story is going to be until then and afterwards. The X-Men are an important part of that future."
Phase 7 of the MCU is poised to be heavily influenced by the X-Men, with Storm making her first MCU appearance in What If...? Season 3. Additionally, Marvel Studios has added three untitled projects to its 2028 release schedule, suggesting one might be an X-Men film.
