Samus Gains Psychic Powers in Metroid Prime 4 on Planet Viewros

During today's Nintendo Switch Direct, we were treated to an exciting new glimpse of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, showcasing innovative psychic-infused gameplay and a striking red-and-purple suit for our beloved protagonist, Samus Aran.

The showcased footage highlighted a range of psychic abilities that Samus will harness to explore the game's environments when it launches later this year. The gameplay has a distinct BioShock-like feel, with Samus scanning ancient stone figures and engaging new adversaries on the mysterious planet Viewros using controlled purple energy from her free hand. While details about this enigmatic jungle world, to which Samus has been "unexpectedly transported," remain scarce, it's evident that intelligent life has long been centered around a colossal tree at its heart.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has experienced a tumultuous development journey. Initially unveiled with just a title logo at E3 2017, it disappeared from the spotlight for years, underwent a developer change, and reemerged last year with our first look at gameplay. Today's Direct, focusing solely on the current Nintendo Switch, leaves open questions about whether Metroid Prime 4 will receive any enhancements for the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2. However, we do know it will be playable on both platforms.
