Iconic Bethesda voice actor Wes Johnson, known for his roles in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, Fallout 3, Starfield, and many other titles, has shared a heartfelt message during his recovery after being discovered "barely alive" in his hotel room last week. A video from Johnson was uploaded to a GoFundMe page, which has raised $174,653 so far to help cover his medical expenses and bills. In the video, Johnson revealed that he had been in a coma.
"I found out there's a lot of love in this world that I didn't know was out there and I'm grateful to each and every one of you," Johnson expressed.
Johnson was in Atlanta to host a benefit event for the National Alzheimer’s Foundation. After flying down and checking into his hotel, he did not appear at the event, raising alarms. His wife, Kim Johnson, called the hotel, and with the help of security and emergency medical technicians, they found him struggling to maintain a pulse.
"Rumors of my demise, well they weren't exaggerated. It was very close, very close. But I'm still here," Johnson said. "I'm still here because my wife decided to call the hotel where I was staying, doing announcing for the Alzheimer's Association, and had my son call security, and find out I was nearly dead."
He was rushed to the hospital and placed in a coma for five days. Upon waking, Johnson learned about the GoFundMe campaign organized by his friends Bill Glasser and Shari Elliker, along with his wife Kim. "They took me to the hospital, put me in a coma. I was in there for five days before I found out that my wonderful friends Bill Glasser and Shari Elliker and Kim had put together this GoFundMe, where I found out there's a lot of love in this world that I didn't know was out there and I'm grateful to each and every one of you."
Johnson extended his gratitude to the National Alzheimer's Association for flying his family to see him and providing them with accommodations, to Ted Leonsis, chairman of the Washington Capitals' parent company, for donating $25,000, and to Glasser and Elliker for their support. He also thanked Bethesda for showing their support on social media after news of his illness broke. "You say that I'm your friend. I am," he said. "Always will be. Love you guys." Johnson also expressed his appreciation to his fans, both those who donated and those who showed support in other ways. "I love you all. I'm not going anywhere," he affirmed.
"It's going to be a while as I work my way back but I'm coming back. I look forward to seeing and having you all hear me then. Cheers."
In addition to his extensive work in video games, particularly with Bethesda titles, Johnson has appeared in numerous film and television roles. His recent video game work includes playing Ron Hope in Starfield, and he has voiced characters such as Prince of Madness Sheogorath and Lucien Lachance in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, three Daedric Princes (Boethiah, Malacath, and Molag Bal) in The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, Fawkes and Maister Burke in Fallout 3, Hermaeus Mora and Emperor Titus Mede II in Skyrim, and Moe Cronin in Fallout 4, among others.
