Sony is reportedly gearing up for its traditional February PlayStation State of Play event next week, scheduled during Valentine's Day week from February 10 to 14, as teased by reliable leaker NateTheHate. This upcoming showcase has sparked speculation about what Sony might unveil, particularly focusing on their announced first-party titles slated for 2025.
Among the anticipated reveals, Sucker Punch's Ghost of Yotei stands out, with a possible new gameplay showcase and a specific release date announcement, considering its current 2025 release window. Fans might also get a glimpse of Bungie's PvP extraction shooter Marathon, especially if playtesting is on the horizon this year. Haven Studios' debut game Fairgames, Naughty Dog's new IP Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and Insomniac's Marvel's Wolverine are also on the list of potential highlights.
A highly anticipated update could come from Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, set for release in 2025, likely with a fresh trailer. However, fans shouldn't expect to see any of the recently canceled live-service games from Sony, including projects from Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games. On the other hand, Guerrilla Games' live service Horizon project, which reportedly survived the cuts, might be ready for its big reveal.
Looking at third-party possibilities, while Physint, Kojima's stealth-action PlayStation exclusive, might be too early for a showcase, Phantom Blade Zero, the action RPG from S-Game, could be a more likely candidate. Additionally, with Microsoft now bringing its games to PlayStation, there's speculation about seeing a release date for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on PS5, or even a surprise announcement of Halo coming to PlayStation.
Reflecting on last year's State of Play gives us a clue into what to expect. It featured titles like Death Stranding 2, Physint, Rise of the Ronin, the Until Dawn remaster, Stellar Blade, Dragon's Dogma 2, Sonic x Shadow Generations, various Silent Hill projects, Ken Levine's Judas, Foamstars, and Helldivers 2. This year's event promises to be just as exciting, if not more, with a lineup of highly anticipated games and potential surprises.
