Splitgate, the “Halo-Meets-Portal” Shooter, Announces Sequel

1047 Games, the creators of the popular "Halo meets Portal" shooter, Splitgate, have announced a sequel! Dive into the Sol Splitgate League and discover what awaits in Splitgate 2.

A Familiar Feeling, Reimagined

On July 18th, 1047 Games unveiled a cinematic trailer for Splitgate 2. CEO Ian Proulx stated their ambition to create "a game built to last a decade or more," requiring a "deep and satisfying gameplay loop" beyond the original's arena-shooter inspiration. Hilary Goldstein, Head of Marketing, emphasized a re-imagined portal system, aiming for a balanced experience accessible to all skill levels.

Developed using Unreal Engine 5, Splitgate 2 will remain free-to-play and introduce a faction system. While retaining familiar elements, the developers promise a completely fresh experience. The game is slated for release in 2025 on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.

Splitgate, known for its unique blend of fast-paced arena combat and Portal-inspired wormholes, gained immense popularity after its 2019 demo release. The original game's success led to server upgrades to handle the massive player base. After its official launch in September 2022, 1047 Games announced they would cease updates to focus on a "revolutionary" sequel.

New Factions, Maps, and Characters

The trailer showcased the Sol Splitgate League and three distinct factions: Aeros (dashing mobility), Meridian (tactical time manipulation), and Sabrask (brute force). While details remain scarce, the developers confirmed Splitgate 2 will not be a hero shooter.

Gameplay details will be revealed at Gamescom 2024 (August 21st-25th). The trailer, however, assures fans of authentic maps, weapons, and the return of dual-wielding.

Splitgate 2 Comics and Companion App

Splitgate 2 will not feature a single-player campaign. Instead, a mobile companion app will offer comics, character cards, and a faction quiz to enhance the lore experience.
