Stellar Blade marks Shift Up's first non-gacha title in the US and has earned praise for its challenging soulslike gameplay, stunning graphics, captivating soundtrack, and its distinctive character design. In our review, Mitchell Saltzman noted that "Stellar Blade is a visually stunning and well-crafted action game with notable strengths and some clear weaknesses. The narrative and characters could use more depth, and certain RPG elements, such as repetitive sidequests that often involve backtracking, could be improved to enhance the experience. However, the game's action compensates for these flaws with its robust, Sekiro-inspired combat system, a diverse array of formidable enemies, and numerous hidden treasures that encourage thorough exploration." IGN rated Stellar Blade a 7/10, yet I personally found the game to be exceptional and would have given it a higher score. It didn't make it onto our list of the best PS5 games of 2024 due to its recent release (games must be out for at least 6 months to qualify).
