There's a New Game of Thrones Illustrated Edition Coming in November, but Still No Winds of Winter

George R.R. Martin recently announced the upcoming illustrated edition of A Feast for Crows, the fourth book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series to receive this special treatment. Illustrated by Jeffrey R. McDonald, the book is slated for release on November 4, 2025. Pre-orders are available through major online retailers such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Target.

This release marks five years since the last illustrated edition (A Storm of Swords) was published in November 2020. The new edition will also include a foreword by Joe Abercrombie, and a preview of interior illustrations is promised later this spring. The Winds of Winter Update (or Lack Thereof):

For those eagerly anticipating The Winds of Winter, Martin's recent comments offer little in the way of a concrete release date. In a December 2024 interview, he hinted at the possibility of never completing the book. This follows a November 2023 update where he stated he'd written 1,100 pages. While this news is disheartening for long-time fans, the completion of the first five illustrated editions before The Winds of Winter suggests a significant time commitment remains.
