The Witcher saga continues! Nearly a decade after the critically acclaimed Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red has unveiled the first trailer for The Witcher 4, starring Ciri as the protagonist.
Ciri, Geralt's adopted daughter, steps into the spotlight as the famed Witcher's trilogy concludes. The teaser showcases Ciri intervening in a village's disturbing ritualistic sacrifice, hinting at a darker storyline than initially anticipated.
While an official release date remains elusive, considering the development timelines of previous titles (Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077), a three to four-year window seems plausible. Given the expected production scale and current development stage, a release within the next few years is a realistic expectation.
Platform exclusivity is yet to be confirmed. However, based on projected timelines, a current-generation console release (PS5, Xbox Series X/S) alongside a PC version is highly likely. A Switch port, while successful for Witcher 3, appears less probable for this iteration, though a potential Switch 2 release remains a possibility.
Although gameplay details are scarce, the CGI trailer offers glimpses of familiar elements, including potions, Signs, and combat. A notable addition may be Ciri's chain, used for both combat and magic.
Voice actor Doug Cockle has confirmed Geralt's presence in the game, albeit in a supporting role, fueling speculation about a mentor-like figure. The elderly Witcher's voiceover in the trailer further supports this theory.
