Quick Links

Nightmare Echoes in Wuthering Waves are powerful variants of existing Echoes that significantly enhance your Resonators' performance. If you're aiming to maximize your characters' potential, securing a Nightmare Echo should be a top priority. While the process of acquiring these Echoes is straightforward, it can be challenging depending on your team's strength in WuWa.

Let's dive into what Nightmare Echoes are and how you can unlock them.

What are Nightmare Echoes?

A Nightmare Echo is an enhanced version of the regular Echoes in Wuthering Waves, dropped by formidable Overlord-class enemies, also known as 4-cost Echoes. These Nightmare variants come with unique active skills and offer a substantial percentage boost to elemental damage, making them far more valuable than their standard counterparts. The passive elemental damage boost allows Nightmare Echoes to replace a 3-cost Echo, enabling a potent 441111 Echo composition.

Importantly, Nightmare Echoes retain the same Sonata/Set effects as their regular versions, ensuring minimal adjustments to your character builds.

How to Unlock Nightmare Echoes

To begin your journey towards farming Nightmare Echoes, you must first complete the Dream Patrol I quest in Rinascita. Start this tutorial quest by speaking to the White Cat in Ragunna City after finishing Act 2 Chapter 3 of the Rinascita story questline.

Completing Dream Patrol I not only introduces you to the Dream Patrols but also marks the locations of all Nightmare Echoes on your map. Here's where you can find each Nightmare Echo:

After defeating a Nightmare Echo, it will appear in your Echo Hunting tab within the Guidebook.

Note that Nightmare Tempest Mephis and Nightmare Crownless are accessible only after completing specific Exploration Quests:

  • Tempest Mephis: Complete "Where Wind Returns to Celestial Realms." Start this quest by heading to the Resonance Beacon south of Shores of Last Breath and then proceed to the northern ruins to interact with a Lumiscale Construct on the ground.

  • Nightmare Crownless: Complete "Ruins Where Shadows Roam." To start this quest, navigate to the Exploration Progress menu on your Map screen, select the Penitent's End menu, and track the "Ruins Where Shadows Roam" quest from the list of activities.
