Xbox Prepares Android App for Game Purchases

Get Ready for the Xbox Android App: Game Purchases Coming in November!

Earlier this year, Xbox president Sarah Bond hinted at a mobile storefront. Now, it seems an Xbox Android app with exciting new features is almost here – potentially as early as next month!

The Inside Scoop:

Expect the Xbox mobile app to launch in November, allowing Android users to purchase and play games directly within the app. This news was shared by Sarah Bond on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the impact of a recent court ruling that will force the Google Play Store to offer expanded choices and greater flexibility for developers.

This ruling stems from Google's four-year antitrust battle with Epic Games. The court mandated that Google provide third-party app stores with full access to the Google Play app catalog and distribute these rival stores for three years (November 1st, 2024 to November 1st, 2027), unless individual developers opt out.

Why is the New Xbox App a Big Deal?

While an existing Xbox Android app allows game downloads to Xbox consoles and cloud streaming for Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, the November update introduces in-app game purchases.

More details about the app's features will emerge in November. For further information, check out this CNBC article.
