Activision has reported a significant increase in player engagement with the main quest of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies, thanks to the new Directed mode. While many players traditionally focus on surviving the relentless waves of undead enemies, the introduction of Directed mode in the Season 1 update has shifted more attention towards the narrative elements of the game.
Since its inception in World at War, the Zombies mode has evolved into a complex narrative experience, with each new installment adding layers to the story. Despite a general decline in the overall player base of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 since its launch, the Zombies mode maintains a dedicated following. The mode's core gameplay involves up to four players fending off increasingly challenging zombies, often leading players to prioritize upgrading their weapons and defenses over following the storyline.
However, the introduction of Zombies Directed mode in the Season 1 update has changed this dynamic. According to a recent Call of Duty blog post, Directed mode has boosted the main quest completion rate from 4% to 8.23%. This improvement was measured over 480 million hours of gameplay, with a significant portion logged after the November 14 release of Directed mode. Treyarch's goal to increase player participation in the main quest has been met with success, as the completion rate has effectively doubled. Yet, with over 90% of players still not completing the main quest, Treyarch is committed to further enhancements.
The Season 1 update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 not only introduced Directed mode but also brought three new maps, two new game modes, and additional features. Directed mode serves as a guide for players, helping them navigate through the intricate Zombies storyline, which includes themes like interdimensional portals, zero-point energy, time travel, and teleportation. These complex elements can be overwhelming for new players, but Directed mode provides a structured path to follow the narrative.
With Directed mode, more Zombies enthusiasts are now completing the main quest than ever before. As Treyarch continues to refine Black Ops 6, future updates to both Zombies and Directed mode are expected to further enhance the main quest completion rates, offering an even richer experience for the community.
