In a February 13, 2025 IGN interview, Beach addressed the absence of several familiar civilizations and leaders from Civ VII's launch lineup. He stated that no past civs have been forgotten, acknowledging player concern over omissions like Great Britain and India.

Beach explained the exclusion of certain established civilizations, including India, was due to the sheer number of popular choices. To introduce fresh and exciting options, some familiar faces had to be left out initially. However, he emphasized that Firaxis is considering the broader picture and plans to reintroduce leaders and civilizations in the future. This leaves open the possibility of Gandhi's eventual comeback.

Given Civilization VI's extensive DLC history, Gandhi's return to Civ VII is highly probable, though the exact release date remains unannounced.
