The creative director at Firaxis Games, Ed Beach, has taken to Steam to share some valuable advice for both newcomers and seasoned players gearing up for their first campaign in the highly anticipated *Civilization 7*. In a detailed post, Beach emphasized the importance of utilizing the game's tutorial, especially for those familiar with previous entries in the series.

"With *Civilization 7* introducing a host of new systems and mechanics, it's a game that stands apart from its predecessors," Beach stated. "We've designed the tutorial to guide players through these novelties, ensuring everyone can enjoy a successful first experience." This guidance is particularly crucial due to the introduction of the Ages system, a groundbreaking feature in the Civilization series. A complete campaign in *Civilization 7* spans three distinct Ages: Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern. At the transition between Ages, players and AI opponents alike must adapt by selecting a new civilization, choosing which Legacies to carry forward, and navigating an evolving game world.

Beach also shed light on why Firaxis chose Small as the default map size for *Civilization 7*. "While many veteran players enjoy the epic scale of larger maps, our decision to use Small as the default stems from a desire to create a manageable learning environment," he explained. "With a few empires on your starting continent and others to explore later, Small Maps offer a comfortable setting for mastering the game's intricacies."

This map size is particularly beneficial for getting acquainted with the revamped Diplomacy system. Beach noted, "It's much easier to manage your Diplomatic Influence and understand the dynamics of relationships with a smaller number of opponents."

For map type, Beach recommended sticking with Continents Plus. "This setting helps introduce you to ocean exploration, a vital aspect of the Exploration Age," he added.

Regarding the tutorial, Beach confirmed that it is automatically enabled for the first game. He strongly advised even experienced players to keep it on for their initial full campaign. "The tutorial is tailored to offer tips and explanations right when you encounter new elements," Beach said. "Given the significant updates to our game systems, using the tutorial throughout the three Ages is highly beneficial."

The game includes four Advisors, and Beach suggested focusing on one at a time to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Once players have a good grasp of the game, he recommended switching to the "Only Warnings" setting. "This allows Advisors to alert you to potential setbacks, which even our expert team at Firaxis finds useful," he concluded.

In other news, Firaxis has revealed *Civilization 7*'s post-launch roadmap during a special livestream event, with Great Britain slated as DLC. *Civilization 7* is set to launch on PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and S on February 11, with early access available through the Deluxe Edition starting February 6.
