Discover the latest updates on Civilization 7 as Firaxis Games opts to focus on quality-of-life enhancements over the game's first in-game event. Dive in to learn more about what's planned for the next update and what the future holds.
Civilization 7 (Civ 7) has decided to delay its first in-game event to prioritize essential quality-of-life improvements. In a detailed update shared on February 28, 2025, Firaxis Games outlined their Development Roadmap, giving players a glimpse into what's coming with the next update.
Scheduled for release on March 4, 2025, across PC and consoles (with a separate schedule for Nintendo Switch), Update 1.1.0 was initially set to introduce the game's first event, the Natural Wonder Battle. However, Firaxis announced, "Although our first in-game Event, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."
Since its early access launch, Civilization 7 has received mixed reviews, with particular criticism aimed at its user interface (UI). Acknowledging this feedback, Firaxis stated, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI." They further added, "We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."
The upcoming Update 1.1.0 for Civ 7 will focus on addressing the community's suggestions and feedback. While the full list of update notes will be available at release, Firaxis has provided a sneak peek of what players can expect.
Players will have the chance to explore a new natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle, at no extra cost. The update will also include highly anticipated UI adjustments, directly responding to player feedback. Moreover, significant changes to the Modern Age’s Cultural Legacy Path and Victory conditions are planned, enhancing AI leaders' ability to achieve a Cultural Victory.
Alongside these improvements, the first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will be released. Firaxis confirmed, "Players who own either of those editions, or have purchased the Crossroads of the World Collection separately, will receive this content automatically with Update 1.1.0."
The development team at Firaxis is set to roll out the next major update on March 25, 2025, although this date may be subject to change. This update will continue to focus on enhancing the game’s UI, as Firaxis stated, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continues to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."
Looking beyond March, Civilization 7 aims to keep improving and refining gameplay. Future updates will introduce a "one more turn" feature allowing players to continue past the end of the Modern Age, auto-explore functionality, new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), enhancements to multiplayer support, and more.
Firaxis emphasized their commitment to these improvements, noting, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
