Disney is reportedly developing a covert Star Wars horror project, as revealed by Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy.
The creative force behind Lucasfilm's recent critical success shared insights about upcoming ventures during an interview with Business Insider. When questioned about tackling darker Star Wars material, he hinted that Disney already has such a project underway.
"They're pursuing that direction. It's currently in development," confirmed Gilroy regarding the horror-themed Star Wars initiative.

If confirmed, this would mark Star Wars' first venture into uncharted dark territory on screen. The project's exact nature remains unknown—it could manifest as a series, film, or other medium—with no official details about its creative leadership. While Lucasfilm's horror concept might take years to materialize, Gilroy's remarks confirm Disney's interest in exploring this direction.
"With the right vision, timing, and creative energy... any concept becomes possible," Gilroy added, reflecting on Andor's development. "Our hope is that Andor's success creates opportunities for more innovative storytelling—just as The Mandalorian did for us."
A full-fledged Star Wars horror film has long been a fan fantasy—shared by Mark Hamill himself. While the franchise has extensively explored the Skywalker saga and its peripheral characters, its darkest narratives remain largely untapped. Though some spinoffs have embraced horror elements, mainstream productions typically maintain broad audience appeal.
Andor has distinguished itself as both one of Star Wars' most mature offerings and among its highest-quality entries. The series debuted strongly in 2022 (earning a 9/10 in our evaluation) and continues to be celebrated.
The wait for Andor's continuation will end when Season 2 launches its first three episodes on April 22. Learn more about how Season 1's triumph enabled Season 2, or explore upcoming 2025 Star Wars projects while awaiting the premiere.
