Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii: A Blend of Manly Drama and Hilarious Mayhem
RGG Studio promises a unique blend of serious storytelling and over-the-top comedic elements in their upcoming title, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. This latest installment features a "more serious" Goro Majima, according to director Masayoshi Yokoyama, particularly at the story's outset.
However, the signature humor of the Like a Dragon series isn't entirely absent. Producer Ryosuke Horii emphasizes a core "manly drama," focusing on Majima's determined pursuit of his goals and the bonds he forges along the way. While acknowledging the game's comedic detours, Horii highlights the central narrative of a passionate individual. He also points out Majima's unique qualities, differentiating him from series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu, making him the ideal lead for this reality-bending adventure. The aim was to balance the pirate theme, Majima's personality, and the essence of the Ryu ga Gotoku franchise.
The developers strived for a compelling balance between realism and extravagance, avoiding a predictable narrative. The gameplay is described as "wilder," yet grounded in a serious and well-developed dramatic arc.
To celebrate the game's launch, RGG Studio is hosting Majima's Maji Festival in six Japanese cities. The tour, which began in Sapporo on December 1st, 2024, concludes with events in Nagoya (January 18th) and Tokyo (January 25th).
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, starring the iconic "Mad Dog of Shimano," promises an unforgettable pirate adventure with thrilling combat, naval battles, a vibrant cast, and a captivating story. The game launches on February 21st for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.
