League of Legends is bringing back Hextech Chests after receiving fan feedback, marking a significant shift in response to community sentiments. Dive in to discover the details of the upcoming update and what lies ahead for LoL.
League of Legends (LoL) has decided to reintroduce Hextech Chests, following an outpour of fan feedback. On February 27, 2025, Riot Games shared a comprehensive developer update on their website, complemented by a video on their YouTube channel. In their statement, LoL acknowledged that recent changes did not meet the expectations of their player base, stating, "Recently, we’ve made a number of changes that didn’t hit the mark for everyone. We’ve been listening to your feedback, and it’s clear that there are areas where we need to adjust."
The return of Hextech Chests was a direct response to player sentiment, with LoL recognizing, "It’s clear that for many of you, Hextech Chests weren’t just a way to get stuff, they were an important part of making your time in League feel rewarding. We didn’t fully grasp how much this mattered to you, and that led us to make changes that missed the mark." Starting with patch 25.05, players will be able to earn up to 10 chests and keys per act, with 8 chests available through the free pass and 2 more obtainable via the Honor system.
Riot Games also announced a delay for the upcoming Exalted Mordekaiser skin, as the development team aims to "take more time to make sure it better delivers on its core fantasy." This delay affects the entire Exalted skin line, meaning fans won't see a new skin in every Act this year as initially planned.
In response to additional fan feedback, LoL is making significant adjustments, including replacing one of the non-Prestige skins with 25 Mythic Essence. This decision reflects the community's feedback on the scarcity of Mythic Essence in the paid Pass and the saturation of champion skins within seasonal themes. Additionally, to enhance accessibility, LoL will be "lowering the Blue Essence cost for all champions by 50% as of patch 25.05."
Another reversal involves the frequency of Clash events. After previously announcing fewer Clash events, LoL is bringing back the monthly schedule, with March's event being ARURF and a regular Summoner's Rift Clash planned for April.
Responding to numerous requests, LoL is bringing back the popular Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop. Fans can look forward to their first appearances of the year, with Your Shop scheduled for patch 25.06 and the Emporium for 25.07.
Riot Games emphasized their commitment to continuous improvement, stating, "We know getting League to the right place isn’t about just one set of changes. It’s about continually refining and improving the game in ways that make it better. We think today’s updates are an important step, and we’ll keep tracking how these changes feel, talking with all of you about how things are landing, and making adjustments."
With these responsive changes, Riot Games demonstrates a dedication to listening to their community, striving to create a gaming experience that aligns with player expectations. League of Legends remains free-to-play on PC, and for the latest updates, be sure to visit our dedicated LoL page.
