Hollow Knight: Silksong Steam Update Hints at 2025 Release

Recent developments have stirred excitement among fans of the highly anticipated game, Hollow Knight: Silksong. Microsoft's casual mention of the title in an official Xbox post, coupled with significant backend changes to the game's Steam listing, suggest that a re-reveal and potential release could be on the horizon. On March 24, the Steam metadata for Hollow Knight: Silksong was updated, as reported across social media, Reddit, and various online communities. These updates, tracked on SteamDB, include an opt-in for the game on GeForce Now, Nvidia’s streaming platform, along with changes to assets and the legal lines on the Steam store page, now listing the copyright as Team Cherry 2025, rather than 2019. This shift hints at a possible 2025 release.

The anticipation is heightened with Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 Direct scheduled for April 2, which could be the perfect stage for a Hollow Knight: Silksong announcement. It's been six years since the game was first announced, and while updates have been sparse, January saw increased activity from Team Cherry on social media, fueling speculation about a re-reveal and potential launch as a timed exclusive on Nintendo's next-gen console. Originally announced for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch, Hollow Knight: Silksong is also set to join Microsoft's Game Pass on day one, adding to the excitement.

Nintendo Switch 2 - First Look

Back in June 2022, Microsoft featured Hollow Knight: Silksong in its Xbox-Bethesda Showcase, promising that all showcased titles would be playable within the next 12 months. This led to speculation that the game would be released within a year. However, in May 2023, Team Cherry announced a delay beyond the first half of 2023, with marketing and publishing lead Matthew Griffin stating, "We had planned to release in the first half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."

As the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2017 game Hollow Knight, Silksong carries immense expectations and remains one of the most wishlisted games on Steam.
