Marvel Rivals Rank Reset Mid-Season Proves Too Controversial, Prompting Reversal

Marvel Rivals has reversed course on its mid-season player rank reset after significant player feedback. Read on to learn about the changes and upcoming developments.

Marvel Rivals Reverses Mid-Season Rank Reset Plan

Dev Talk 11: Seasonal Rank Adjustments Revised

Following player backlash to Dev Talk 10, which announced a mid-season rank reset dropping players four divisions, Marvel Rivals has issued Dev Talk 11. The initial plan, proposing resets every 45 days, proved unpopular. Players voiced concerns about the discouraging effect on rank progression.

In response, Marvel Rivals has canceled the mid-season rank reset. Players will retain their end-of-first-half season ranks and scores. However, the end-of-season rank reset, dropping players six divisions, remains in effect.

Human Torch, The Thing, and Other Updates Remain on Track

Despite the rank reset reversal, other planned updates are proceeding. The arrival of Human Torch and The Thing, expanding the roster to 39 heroes, is still on schedule. NetEase Games’ previous commitment to releasing two new playable characters per three-month season remains unchanged.

Rewards for Gold rank and above also remain as announced. Players achieving Gold rank will receive a free Invisible Woman costume, while Grandmaster and above will receive Crests of Honor. Additional rewards, including another free costume and Crests of Honor (for Grandmaster and above), will be awarded at the end of the season.

Balance adjustments were also previously announced, though details are yet to be revealed.

Marvel Rivals’ swift response to the negative feedback is noteworthy. Within hours of publishing Dev Talk 10, they addressed player concerns with Dev Talk 11.

The developers emphasized their commitment to community feedback, stating, "We strive to make Marvel Rivals the best game it can be, and the community is the driving force behind this mission! [...] Your engagement and support mean the world to us, and we're excited to continue this journey together!"

The mid-season update is scheduled for February 21, 2025. Marvel Rivals is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Visit our Marvel Rivals page for the latest news and updates.
