Microsoft introduces Retro Classics with Game Pass, partnering with Antstream Arcade to deliver a curated selection of more than 50 vintage Activision titles from the golden era of arcade gaming (1980s-1990s) exclusively for Game Pass subscribers.
The nostalgic lineup features timeless classics including Commando, Grand Prix, Kaboom!, Mech Warrior 2: 31st Century Combat, and Pitfall! - some dating back nearly half a century. For the first time ever in these legacy titles, players can utilize save states to preserve their progress.
Microsoft positions Retro Classics as "advancing our dedication to gaming preservation and backward compatibility." The collection will be accessible across all Game Pass tiers in currently supported regions.
Microsoft plans regular expansions to the Retro Classics library, gradually incorporating additional Activision and Blizzard retro titles with monthly updates, ultimately exceeding 100 preserved games.
Microsoft's official announcement highlights:
Retro Classics delivers optimized gaming experiences across Xbox consoles, Windows PCs, and cloud-enabled devices. Whether playing natively or streaming via supported LG/Samsung Smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV, or Meta Quest headsets, subscribers can enjoy these cherished titles anywhere.
Game Pass members can explore Retro Classics through their subscription by searching the collection on Xbox consoles or the PC app. Competitive players can challenge friends globally with specialized retro challenges. Achievement hunters will discover new retro-themed accomplishments, while modern quality-of-life features like save states make these classics more accessible than ever.
This retro gaming initiative follows Microsoft's recent announcements of Wave 2 additions to May 2025's Game Pass lineup and the confirmation of Hellblade 2's PlayStation 5 release this summer.
