Dr. Disrespect's Midnight Society Shuts Down, Cancels Deadrop

Midnight Society, the game development studio co-founded by streamer Guy "Dr. Disrespect" Beahm, has announced its closure and the cancellation of its anticipated FPS title, Deadrop.

In an X post, the studio stated, "Today we're announcing Midnight Society's closure after three years, with a talented team of over 55 developers." The announcement also included a plea for job opportunities for its now-displaced employees.

Midnight Society was established by Beahm alongside industry veterans Robert Bowling (Call of Duty) and Quinn Delhoy (Halo). Deadrop, their flagship free-to-play PvPvE extraction shooter, aimed for a 2024 release but ultimately failed to meet its target.

The studio parted ways with Beahm in 2024 following the streamer's admission of inappropriate online interactions with a minor via Twitch Whispers. Despite this separation, development on Deadrop continued until the recent studio closure.

Deadrop was envisioned within a unique, retro-futuristic setting described as "the 80s never ending." Promotional material showcased characters sporting Daft Punk-esque helmets, wielding both firearms and melee weapons.

Midnight Society's closure adds to the growing list of game studios facing challenges and downsizing in the current difficult climate for the games industry, impacting major players such as Ubisoft, BioWare, and Phoenix Labs.
