Monster Hunter Wilds Receives Mixed Reviews on Steam

Despite receiving mixed reviews on Steam, Monster Hunter Wilds has surpassed one million concurrent players. SteamDB data shows the game reached an all-time peak of 1,384,608 concurrent players at the time of writing.

MH Wilds has dramatically outperformed its predecessors - Monster Hunter World's peak was 334,684 players, while Monster Hunter Rise achieved 231,360. However, the Steam version currently holds Mixed reviews, with only 57% of 54,669 reviews being positive. Most negative reviews criticize the game's poor PC optimization and various performance issues.

Capcom Addresses PC Performance Concerns

In response to criticism about MH Wilds' PC performance, Capcom has acknowledged these issues and is working to resolve them. The official Monster Hunter support account, Monster Hunter Status, posted on Twitter/X on February 28, 2025, addressing player concerns and offering potential solutions.

The post directed users to MH Wilds' support website, which features answers to frequently asked questions from players. Capcom's recommended troubleshooting steps include updating video/graphics drivers, installing the latest Windows updates, performing clean driver installations, and other technical adjustments.

For persistent issues, Capcom advised players to "Please also try the troubleshooting steps on the Official Monster Hunter Wilds Troubleshooting & Issue Reporting Thread posted on the Steam community page, as they contain more detailed and additional steps that may help resolve your issue."

Game-breaking Bug Halts Story Progression

A critical bug is currently preventing players from advancing the main story. An essential NPC fails to appear in the correct location, blocking progress during Main Mission: Chapter 5-2 A World Turned Upside Down. Monster Hunter Status confirmed awareness of this issue in a March 2, 2025 Twitter/X post and stated that developers are working on a solution.

Additional problems include the "Grill a Meal" and "Ingredient Center" features remaining locked despite players meeting unlock requirements, along with issues accessing the Smithy. The development team has responded to these concerns by deploying hotfixes and updates across various consoles and platforms.

Character Editing Requires Microtransactions

MH Wilds requires microtransactions for comprehensive character and Palico appearance changes. The game offers a Character Edit Voucher Three-Voucher Pack, allowing players to redo their character creation process three times for $6.00, available on all digital storefronts.

While players can freely modify hair, eyebrow color, facial features, makeup, and clothing, more substantial changes require purchasing vouchers. The same applies to editing Palico companions, though a combined $10 voucher package allows three edits for both characters and Palicos.

Despite these paid options, Capcom is providing one free character edit voucher. These microtransactions weren't available during MH Wilds' testing period, though Capcom had previously announced they would be included in the final release.
