The PlayStation Portal hasn't seen a direct price cut, but you can now save by buying a refurbished model. Amazon Resale (formerly Amazon Warehouse) currently offers "Used - Like New" PS Portal units for just $149.88, with free shipping. That's a significant 25% discount off the original $199 retail price. While a Sony warranty is not guaranteed, Amazon Resale items come with the standard 30-day return policy for peace of mind. We anticipate this deal will sell out quickly.

The PlayStation Portal, Sony's handheld accessory for the PS5, resembles a DualSense controller with an 8-inch 1080p LCD screen built into the center. It transforms your PS5 into a portable gaming device by streaming games from your console at up to 60fps. The controller retains all the key features of the DualSense, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and a touchpad interface on the screen. The Portal can stream games even when you're away from home, provided you have access to a very fast and extremely stable internet connection. It's important to remember that the PS Portal is not a standalone console; it functions exclusively as a remote player for the PlayStation 5, so you must own a PS5 to use it.
Good news: you no longer need a PS5 to play games on the Portal. Sony has introduced a new feature that allows owners to stream games directly from the PlayStation Plus cloud service, moving beyond just streaming from a local console. With recent beta updates, Portal users can now connect directly to Sony’s cloud servers. Choosing this method grants instant access to a library of over 120 titles, including Ghost of Tsushima, Resident Evil 3 Remake, The Last of Us Part I, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Please note this requires a subscription to the highest tier of PlayStation Plus, but at $18 per month, it's a more accessible option than buying a $500 console plus individual games.
It's worth mentioning that the PlayStation Portal isn't the only way to stream PS5 games over your home Wi-Fi. You can achieve similar functionality by using the PS Remote Play app on a mobile device or other handhelds like the Steam Deck. However, the setup can be more complex, and you'll miss out on the full DualSense feature set.
PlayStation Portal Review by Seth Macy
"The PlayStation Portal is the most surprisingly delightful device I've ever used, completely surpassing my initial skepticism. It offers a vastly superior experience compared to using a phone with a clip-on controller, and its performance far exceeded my expectations. I genuinely appreciate the freedom to play my PS5 from anywhere with solid WiFi, especially when my family is using the living room TV. While it's entirely dependent on a PlayStation 5 and not a standalone device, the Portal's main shortcomings are its current inability to connect to Wi-Fi networks that require a web browser login and its lack of Bluetooth audio support. Despite these limitations, it's an excellent device and the best solution available for PlayStation Remote Play. If not for those two caveats, I would recommend it as an essential purchase for any PS5 owner who enjoys handheld gaming or frequently competes for TV time."
