PoE 2: Herald Interactions for Ice and Thunder

This guide explains the Double Herald setup (Herald of Ice + Herald of Thunder) in Path of Exile 2, a technique that creates a chain reaction clearing entire screens with a single hit. While understanding the interaction isn't mandatory, it helps with build creation.

How to Use Double Herald (Herald of Ice + Herald of Thunder) in PoE 2

Four key elements are required:

1. Herald of Ice Skill Gem with Lightning Infusion Support Gem.
2. Herald of Thunder Skill Gem with Cold Infusion Support Gem ( Glaciation is recommended).
3. 60 Spirit.
4. A method to inflict Cold damage.

Remember to activate both Heralds in the skills menu.

Effective ways to initially proc Herald of Ice include:

• Monk's Ice Strike.
• Passive skills boosting Freeze buildup.
• Weapons/gloves with flat cold damage.
• Against the Darkness Time-Lost Diamond Jewel (+Cold damage%).

How Herald of Ice and Thunder Work Together in PoE 2

Herald of Ice activates when an enemy is Shattered (attacking a frozen enemy). Crucially, its cold damage cannot Freeze, preventing self-perpetuation.

Herald of Thunder activates upon killing a Shocked enemy, releasing damaging lightning bolts. Similarly, it cannot inflict Shock independently.

The synergy lies in the Support Gems: Lightning Infusion on Herald of Ice converts some damage to Shock-inducing Lightning, and Cold Infusion on Herald of Thunder converts some damage to Freeze-inducing Cold.

Ideally, this creates a continuous chain reaction (Ice -> Thunder -> Ice, etc.). Realistically, it usually occurs once or twice due to the need for a constant enemy supply. Breaches are ideal due to their high enemy density.

The process begins by proccing Herald of Ice via Freeze and Shattering (using a cold skill like Ice Strike). This creates a cold explosion, shocking enemies and triggering Herald of Thunder. Prioritizing Herald of Ice is beneficial because Freeze is easier to inflict than Shock, and Herald of Thunder's lightning bolts have better range.
